The view

We’re very lucky to call Teignmouth home and to run our boats in such a special part of the coast. Teignmouth and Shaldon are places we know and love, and seeing them from the water really is something to be experienced. We’re confident you’ll come to love them just as much once you’ve been out on the water.

Heritage

80 years of history

Teign Boat Hire has been part of the local waterfront for over 80 years, helping people get out on the water and enjoy this stretch of coast. Based in Teignmouth, we’ve spent generations getting to know the river, the estuary, and the surrounding coastline, and that local knowledge is at the heart of what we do.

Over the years, the business has grown steadily while keeping the same straightforward approach. Today, we run a fleet of well-maintained, fully licensed boats, offering a simple and reliable way for people to explore the area for themselves.

We’re proud to continue that tradition as a small, family-run business, focused on keeping things safe, accessible, and easy, while giving more people the chance to experience Teignmouth and Shaldon from the water.

Meet The Fleet

Our boats

Our lovely fleet consists of… The Margaret, Henry, Frank-C, Chris and Trebena.

All of our boats are available to hire by the hour, with half-day rates also available. Each boat is rigorously maintained, regularly surveyed, and fully inspected and licensed by the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency) and MECAL. We have boats suitable for parties of up to 6 people, and every hire includes a comprehensive safety briefing along with friendly instruction on using the harbour and river, including guidance on entering and leaving the estuary. Our prices include fuel, life jackets, fishing equipment, and all safety instructions. No licence is required to hire a boat, although we do need to ensure that the hirer has appropriate experience or is of a sensible nature.
